Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Held a Discussion on the Construction of a 500-kilovolt Power Interconnection Lines

Recently, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan held a discussion on cooperation in the fields of energy and communication to construct the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan 500 kV transmission line, Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - India Natural gas pipeline and fiber optic communication line. At present, the power generation capacity in Afghanistan is less than 300,000 kilowatts (mainly hydropower). Imported electricity covers 76.26% of its electricity consumption. Only 40% of the Afghanistan people have access to electricity, and 500 million kilowatts of electricity will be needed to meet the demands of entire country. Turkmenistan has been exporting electricity to Afghanistan through two 220-kilovolt electricity lines and another 110-kilovolt line at a discounted price. (Source: Trend.az)
